In an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, Donald Trump – who used to support a woman’s right to choose – advocated not only banning abortion but also punishing women who have them after such a ban.
“There has to be some form of punishment,” Trump told Matthews.
Following along a conservative line on many issues, Trump suggested that the matter should be referred to individual states.
“This issue is unclear,” he said, “and should be put back into the states for determination.”
Trump doesn’t seem to have paid attention in any government classes. Abortion is a Constitutional RIGHT as ruled by the Supreme Court and only a Constitutional amendment can be used to do anything with it, whether that’s making it illegal or referring it to the states.
One of his rivals for the GOP nomination, Gov. John Kasich, said that he personally disagrees with abortion but does not fall in line with Trump’s words. Cruz has not yet commented.
