Charles Brotman

Donald Trump is a heartless bastard. He has shown us this time and time again. Just when we think he can sink no lower, he does just that. He did it again on Sunday when he fired 89-year-old Charles Brotman, who has been the announcer for the Presidential Inaugural Parade for the last 60 years.
Speaking with the Washington, D.C. affiliate of ABC News, WJLA, Brotman says he is “heartbroken” by what Trump has done to him. He says of how he felt when he got the news:
“I’ve been doing this for 60 years. I was destroyed.”
Of course, after breaking an old man’s heart, Team Trump tried to smooth it over with a statement after saying that Brotman would be replaced by 58-year-old Steve Ray, a freelancer on the radio they dug up from who knows where:
“Since 1957, millions of Americans and countless entertainers have come to recognize Charlie Brotman as the voice of the inaugural parade. The Presidential Inaugural Committee will be proud to honor Charlie as Announcer Chairman Emeritus on January 20. We are thrilled for Steve Ray to be introducing a new generation of Americans to the grand traditions of the inaugural parade.”
Brotman, of course, has way more class than any of those clowns ever will, and said of Ray:
“I want him to do good.”
Ray spoke with the Washington Post, and said of Brotman:
“All of us think of Charlie as as much of the Washington landscape as any building. I’m on top of the world. From my point of view, I am not filling his shoes, I’m not taking his place, I just happen to be the guy who’s next.”
Of course, this is just lip service. The Trump team – and indeed Trump himself – seem to have the inability to ever feel shame for any reason. This is disgraceful. They continue to shred proud American traditions in an effort to stroke Trump’s ego over and over again – all while trampling all that is great and good about our traditions in this circle jerk of absolute and unabashed narcissism.
Make America great again indeed.
