History may tell us that the first anime appeared around 1907, although one thing is for sure. Anime or manga may be linked to each other or another concept, so discussing which came first is unheard of in certain anime circles. Although there will be a topic that may be a bone of contention for most otakus since anime started: what people think is the most popular anime right now?
If you have been watching the seasons of Boku No Hero Academia, you might have already found yourself a lot of reasons to like it. But for someone who might watch it for the first time, let us talk about a few things that will get to you love the anime.
Almost All the Character Names Have Significance
Kohei Horikoshi, the creator of the series, gave most of the characters in the anime names that have a particular meaning, which often fits the personality that they were intended to have.
A sample is Ochako Kuraka, whose first name means “fine day” when translated into Japanese. They portray her as a cheerful girl, which befits the meaning of the name given to her. Everyone will surely have a beautiful day with her around.
Another is Tenya Iida’s name, which came from idaten that is based on Skanda’s name, a prominent Buddhist personality which means someone quick on their feet. Tenya’s quirk, which is the same as his older brother, undoubtedly lives up to that name.
Denki Kaminari, whose quirk revolves around electric currents, has a name, which means electric (Denki) and thunder (Kaminari). As you can see, his name gives justice to his quirk.
Tsuyu Asui’s quirk is linked to frogs, and when do we usually hear lots of frogs? Tsuyu or rainy season in Japanese, which generally happens in June, can surely give you an idea of why she has that quirk.
Izuku Was Supposed to Be an Adult
Horikoshi initially intended Izuku to be an adult, but because the general audience for ShonenJump was younger, a storyline that revolves around an adult might not fly. He changed everything, especially with Izuku Midoriya, which he initially gave the name Jack Midoriya, and had the story set to a school environment and Izuku to start as a kid.
Having the story set in a school, though, limits the possibilities of letting Boku No Hero Academia grow with great storylines. Still, since Horikoshi loved writing origin stories, so the school setting fit the new idea that he had for the anime.
This makes watching the anime all the more fun because you will get to see a lot of plotlines that will make it more intriguing to watch.
Horikoshi Loosely Based the Anime Storyline to Spiderman
The biggest inspiration for Boku No Hero Academia came from Spiderman, which Horikoshi loves, as he often thinks about the character when asked about the true meaning of how it is to be a hero. He believes that a hero should be a shining light to guide others and also an embodiment of strength, which what he thinks Spiderman is about. Spiderman also started as a hero when he was a teenager, thus the setting of Boku No Hero Academia.
With the real-world problems that have already been covered by the anime, there are some ideas that people can readily relate to when it comes to watching the series. This is also the reason why it is becoming one of the most popular anime right now.
Summary
Boku No Hero Academia may seem the same as other existing animes, but with the protagonist having an underdog concept behind him makes this anime hot closer to home to its viewers. Izuku Midoriya may be the hero that most people would feel strongly about, how he has strived from being quirk-less to getting the quirk that may be the strongest out there. Still, the storyline keeps him human, that there would be times that he will lose, but he will come out of his losses as a better person and hero.
