After being invited by Donald Trump for an overnight visit and participation for a day on the campaign trail, Jerry Falwell, Jr., once again praised Mr. Trump and called upon his Christian brothers and sisters to back our time’s incarnation of King David.
It is sad to see Christians attacking other Christians because they don’t support the same candidate or the candidate who they believe is the most righteous.
God called King David a man after God’s own heart even though he was an adulterer and a murderer. You have to choose the leader that would make the best king or president and not necessarily someone who would be a good pastor. We’re not voting for pastor-in-chief. It means sometimes we have to choose a person who has the qualities to lead and who can protect our country and bring us back to economic vitality, and it might not be the person we call when we need somebody to give us spiritual counsel.
God has apparently called several Republican candidates to be the next president this year but changed His mind as they began to suspend their campaigns. Now we’re down to Trump, Kasich, and Cruz (referenced by his father as the ‘anointed king’).
What is it with this “king” business, anyway? That’s more than a bit concerning.
Is Donald Trump “after God’s own heart”? There is comfort in the knowledge that many fundamentalists are actually backing someone who isn’t as theocratically inspired as those like Cruz, but should he be elected the time will come to pay the proverbial piper. Falwell and others will want some back-patting for bringing as many sheep to Trump’s fold as possible.
