Debt doesn’t stop with death.
“In general, a burial is usually $12,000 to $15,00 dollars,” said owner of Harts Mortuary, Milton Heard.
Especially if you plan on getting buried at a cemetery–add on a viewing, a vault, and a casket, and President of Harts Mortuary Milton Heard says things and could easily add up.
According to the National Funeral Director’s Association, the average cost of a funeral with a viewing and burial today is around $7600. That’s a jump from 5 years ago when prices were 6.4% lower.
It’s a cost that’s only getting more expensive because of inflation according to Heard.
From the caskets to the flowers, prices have gone up, but there’s one trend that’s been heating up lately, and it’s cutting those costs in half.
“Cremation has gone up since years ago but that’s an inflationary reason more than anything. The biggest difference between cremation and burial cost usually, on average, is about half the price,” Heard explained.
