Gaming is one of the biggest industries in the world and each day millions of people log on to play their favourite title. Whether you are logging in to play your favourite first person shooter, a racing simulator or even spin some free slots, playing your favourite game is a great way to take a break.
Coming home from work after a long day, or even on the weekend, there’s nothing better to pair your favourite game than with an ice-cold glass of beer.
In this article, we will look at the best beers to drink whilst you play your favourite games.
Shooter games – Lager
Shooter games have dominated the gaming industry for decades, and 2023 is no different. With the likes of Call of duty dominating for years and newer games such as Overwatch 2 and Fortnite taking over the shooter game scene, what better beer to accompany it than a great lager.
There isn’t a much better feeling than sitting down at your gaming set up, putting on your mic and opening a cool bottle of San Miguel. There are other options such as Corona or Estrella, all of which are great shouts.
Combined with the fast-paced nature of shooter games, having one or a few of these whilst playing is a delight!
Handheld – Cider
Cider can come in all shapes and sizes, and for those who don’t like the strong bitter taste of a lager, a cider may be the way to go. Cider tends to come in flavours such as apple, pear, cherry raspberry just to name a few, meaning there is a host of flavours to choose from and try.
For handheld users, sitting on the sofa with a refreshing fruity cider is the perfect way to relax, being able to play your favourite handheld games such as Pokemon, Animal crossing or even spinning a few slots. If you want a fruity flavoured alcoholic drink, cider is the way to go.
Action games – Pale Ale
Action games require complete concentration and focus, as one mistimed click or wrong press could put you in a world of trouble. That’s why for this genre we’ve gone with pale ale. With the strong taste of pale ale giving your tastebuds a kick into overdrive, this will be sure to give you the boost you need to be on top of your game and get ahead of the game.
Some of the pale ales we would recommend are Magic Rock Murk Life Balance Hazy Pale, Camden Town Camden Pale Ale and Beavertown Gamma Ray American Pale Ale.
Indie Games – Craft Brew
Who doesn’t love an indie game? They’re fun, inventive, and sometimes adorable. But one thing for sure, they’re all made by smaller developers trying to get a foot in the heavy door that is the gaming industry. Games such as Stardew Valley and Overcooked 2 are fan favourites with a relatively small group of developers behind them.
Much like indie games, craft brews are normally made by smaller breweries and consist of a small team, sometimes even dealing with one barrel at a time. These companies very much pride themselves on the flavours and customer services, and often sell their beer directly to their customers to cut out costs.
Role playing – Stout.
Ever heard of Skyrim and Fallout? Role playing games have been at the forefront of gaming for years and are games you can typically easily sink hours and hours into before you’ve even realised, spending a vast amount of time just creating your character.
With a game like this, you’re going to need a drink you can slowly drink as the night goes on, not getting bloated or sick of the drink, and that’s where Stout comes in. Such drinks as Hercule Stout and Lervig three bean Stout being great options to drink through the night.
Racing games – Brown Ale
It’s obvious to say you shouldn’t drink and drive, however drinking and driving in a simulator game is perfectly fine to do. Whilst we can’t say drinking brown ale whilst playing a driving game will make you better, we certainly feel you’ll have a better time!
There’s nothing better than going head-to-head with your mates after a few drinks, trying to come out on top on Mario Kart, only to be hit with a blue shell at the last minute.
Having a beer whilst playing your favourite games can be a great way to wind down, or even have a laugh with friends. It’s important to find the genre of game that you find most enjoyable. Once you’ve found that, it’s just as important to find a beer that goes with it.
You don’t have to stick with what we’ve said, try them out for yourself and see what you like most!
