Packaging changed the game in the 20th Century it was around this time that we saw an explosion of flavors and ingredients being added. Artificial flavorings were the ideal solution to flavor challenges, and wrapped sweets and candies were able to last longer and be transported further.
Changes in Diet
Medical breakthroughs identified sugar as a potential risk to health in the mid-20th Century, and candy was seen as a treat which should be consumed only on occasion. There are some countries such as the United States which have enormous candy markets, and it is no surprise that obesity is an issue in the country. Most countries however, have a sensible approach to candy and they understand that to enjoy this delicious treat occasionally is the best way to go about consuming delicious candy.
